A couple of the reasons why children and young people may not follow the pattern normally expected with their ages and stages of development are listed below. There are many more reasons but below I have presented 5 reasons.
A child’s development pattern that is normally expected may not always happen, this can be for different reasons. The first reason could be that the child may be disabled in one way or another for example, the child could have a disability to do with their speech and language and so therefore in that area they may not be on track within the development of learning that they should be. Many disabilities can affect children’s development, a lot of the time this can be caught at a young age and children can be helped but sometimes it doesn’t always show when the child is very young and may show when they become older. The second reason could be within children and young peoples home lives the communication side of things can differ, some children and young people don’t get much communication when they’re in their homes. Therefor the child or young person may then struggle when they come from their homes into different social environments.

The third reason could be children and young people can have different learning needs, some people could have certain diseases which will prevent them from following the pattern normally expected within the development. They could also have a difficulty within their physical movement which they may carry with them throughout their lives to also stop them from following the pattern of development expect within a child or young person.The forth reason is that different cultures can affect children’s development, it could affect the development because if the child needed additional help and the culture of that child didn’t want the child to get additional help when it was needed, the child may not be able to catch up with their development or get back on track.
Therefore, the child could be behind for the pattern of development that is normally expected. Fourthly, the normal pattern of development could be affected by the child’s environment, if the child is in an environment where the parents shout for example the child may not then want to speak much as they feel as if they can’t. The child may not have the enabling environment to help them to learn and explore.
For example, the child may not have anything to play with, look at or anything to use their different senses (the correct resources).
