The characters Christian Grey, from Fifty Shades of Grey and Edward Rochester, from Jane Eyre have several similarities and differences. Both are rich and powerful men who use that influence to attract women. Rochester is capricious, cruel, rude and deceitful but ultimately values truth. There is a morality that lies at the focus of Jane Eyre and the more traditionally heroic qualities that are also possessed by Rochester. Such qualities are not immediately apparent in the character of Christian. Rochester and Christian both make demands of Jane and Ana.
Rochester’s demands are more traditional, he wants marriage and love from Jane, while Christian is looking Ana to agree to his sexual lifestyle.
