What qualities make Beowulf an epic hero

What qualities make Beowulf an epic hero? During Anglo-Saxon times, the behavior of the epic hero Beowulf is a reflection of the beliefs of this time period. Beowulf is one of the most notable characters that exemplifies the characteristics of an epic hero. The most notable characteristics of an epic hero that Beowulf possesses are superior strength and courage, strong sense of righteousness, and risks death for the glory or the greater of society.
In the story of Beowulf, there are three notable examples of Beowulf’s superhuman strength and courage. In the battle with Grendel, it states “that shepherd of evil, guardian of crime, knew at once that nowhere on Earth had he met a man whose hands were harder…” and it later says that Beowulf tears off Grendel’s arm with his bare hands. In the battle with Grendel’s mother, Beowulf shows his extreme courage by traveling to the mother’s lair and fighting her. Finally, in the battle with the dragon, Beowulf once more shows his courage by fighting the dragon even when faced with highly probable failure and his, most likely, death. Beowulf’s shoe of superhuman strength and courage is just one of a few pieces of evidence that makes Beowulf an epic hero.
There are many examples of when Beowulf shows his sense of morality.
