What does it take to be a hero

What does it take to be a hero? Does it mean something as simple as saving a cat from a tree and helping someone in need, or does it take something much greater? The dictionary defines a hero as a person who is noted for their acts of courageousness or nobility; someone who steps into a situation and ultimately saves the day. Yet a hero can be someone much more powerful than that. A hero can also be someone who takes a stand. A person who stands up for others when nobody else does, and willingly puts their reputations and status aside in order to do what is right. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch is most definitely that hero. Atticus takes on the role of defending a negro man even though he knows he has not a chance at winning; and also uses this as an opportunity to set an example of humanity and equality for others.
