Under Britain’s rule

Under Britain’s rule, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, was a very difficult thing to accomplish. King George claimed full power of the government for being king. He abused his power and the colonies. North America was looked at as royal lands and the colonists were King George’s tennants.The King felt he should have the right to raise and add new taxes on the colonists if it’s what he wanted to do. Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston came together to create the Declaration of Independence to let The King know that they were no longer going to tolerate his treatment and that they would fight for their independence.
Britain imposed many intolerable regulations on the colonists that started to anger them and make their will for freedom to grow. Due to the French and Indian war, Britain had to raise taxes on the colonists to help fund it. One of the acts passed that upset the colonists greatly was The Stamp Act which was passed in 1765. Imported goods like tea were required to be taxed. Colonists protested by hurling sea into the harbor while dressed as Native Americans. Due to the several more protests and conflicts between the Colonies and Britain, Britain imposed a new rule that every family must house and care for a British soldier.
After constant abuse of power the colonists decided to fight back.Though the treatment of the colonists was terrible, it did inspire many rights and freedoms to be given to the colonists once they broke free from Britain. The first Amendment ensures that any person can speak out against the government. The second amendment grants citizens the right to own guns to overthrow the government if it becomes corrupt. It also ensures that Americans can protect all of the other amendments that grant them their freedom.
1814, the Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key and eventually became the National Anthem in 1931. The Maryland fort was viciously attacked in the by the british during The War of 1814. During the attack there was a lone US flag flying that never got harmed or struck down which inspired Key to write our national anthem which was originally a poem called “The Defence of Fort McHenry”.
