Those those who doesn’t have enough fortitude

Those are lines from the song entitled “Anything Worth Holding on” originally by Scott Allan which I think is related to the topic of this explanation essay of mine which is “depression”. As what I’ve read and saw on facebook status, blog post, or different articles, suffering depression is suffering from severe sadness, losing inspiration and hoping or reason on holding on and continuing their live against those hindrances that we’ve facing in this world that full of challenges. That’s why in some cases other may lead to suiciding and they are those who are weak in facing their problems, those who doesn’t have enough fortitude in order to survive and overcome those problems in everyday life. Though depression is widely known as one of the recurrent problems of adolescents of today’s generation, do we really know what it is all about, what depression can do to us? This explanation essay will apprise everybody regarding what depression does really signifies or mean, what are the impacts or how it greatly affects a person lives and how can we treat depression.Depression is a type of medical or mental disorder that day after day affects our thoughts, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.

As explained by the American Psychiatric Association, depression is an ordinary and crucial medical illness on which it negatively effects on the way on how we people feel, we think and we act or response in different things and fortunately it is treatable. Approximately depression strikes one in 15 adults (6.7%) in any given year.

Though depression can strike at any time and to anyone else lives, maybe on me, on you, anyone—even a person who appears to live in relatively ideal circumstances. In addition to what is stated above according to Herndon, depression, recognized in the DSM-5 as major depressive disorder (MDD) and sometimes called clinical depression, is a common mental health condition. In 2016, more than 16 million adults experienced at least one major depressive episode. It is plausible that depression afflicts multitudinous people to some degree in their lifetime. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, depression isn’t a single disorder, but rather a class of conditions separated by severity and duration. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, also reveals that 9.

1 percent of people reported current major or minor depression. If you, yourself or anyone you know is depressed, it can cause a marked drop in interest in pursuing life to the fullest, hopelessness, lack of reason on holding on or worth for living and can, unfortunately, drive a person to attempt suicide if left untreated. Depression is technically a mental disorder, but it also affects a person’s life through life through physically, socially, mentally or emotionally. On which those effects are very devastating to a person’s life.

Those physical impacts of depression affects the brain, heart and other parts of the body on which heart disease is also a trigger for depression. Even though depression is often thought of as a mental illness, it also plays a heavy role in appetite and nutrition. Some people whose suffering depression cope by overeating or bingeing.

This can lead to weight gain and obesity-related illnesses. In addition to the health or physical effects of depression, depression victims or patients also experience social effects as well. This social effects affects or bring a big difference on how a person functions in the world or response on the problems in this world that full of challenges. In accordance to that, it have emotional effects such as feeling pessimistic or hopeless and worthlessness, hopelessness in living and coping with the challenges in life. Being anxious or worried in all the things, increased irritability. Those depression victims have fewer facial expression. Anxiety, reduced concentration, indecisiveness also included to emotional or mental effects of depression.

And some of the social effects of depression include: substance use and abuse which many adolescents of today are very frowned but our government and President Rodrigo Duterte already made a program about this which is the War on Drugs and giving them chance to change with the help rehabilitation. Specially, it decreases performance at work or school of a person. If a victim is a student it may lead her or him to failing grades, having lower scores in test or exam because they can’t focus on their studies. Fortunately and luckily depression is treatable.

As said by American Psychiatric Association it says that before a treatment, a health professional should administer first a thorough diagnostic appraisal, on which there are ways to treat depression like through medication, psychotherapy and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). Helpguide.org also explained some depression treatment tips; first you should learn as much as you can about your depression. You’ll require to get social support and it is set on the mind that treatment takes time and commitment and recovery usually has its good and bad times so you should stay positive. One article that I’ve read also states that depression usually can be treated through two steps: acute treatment and continuation treatment .In acute treatment its objective is to entirely remove the symptoms or manifestation of depression until the patient will become feeling great and in addition, continuation treatment is necessary and significant because it keeps the episode of depression coming back.

All in all to summarize all my claims and points, depression is not one’s self fault, it is not a weakness rather it is a medical or mental illness. On which it brings up a lot of negative effect to its victim and patient that affects person through physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. But the most important is, luckily it is treatable. Many doctors, psychiatrist discovers treatments for depression. So I will end this essay with the quotation “Always walk with faith” because if you walk with faith, you can’t felt the feeling of loneliness, worthlessness and hopelessness because God is with you.
