The gender wage gap can be defined as the difference in compensation between men and women, specifically males earning a significant amount more in overall pay as compared to females. Gender wage gap is caused by a number of factors including the need to leave, choose or re-enter the workforce due to family responsibilities. Low paying jobs including clerical work and childcare also cause this gender wage gap. Women have been historical segregated and undervalued as they are seen as the only ones who can take so much backlash and such jobs. Lower education levels have also contributed to this gender wage gap. Today, this is becoming less of an issue due to many women enrolling in post secondary education.
