The Cherokee men would clear space for farming by cutting down trees and then using those trees to build homes, fence posts and canoes. They provided food by hunting and fishing with bows, nets and traps. They made the moccasins for shoes.
The Cherokee women had a completely different role then the men. The women owned the homes and they were warriors. The women also had the job of raising the children. Since they had power over the household it only made sense they would participate in government affairs. They did the same jobs as the women from the other tribes. The women wove and colored baskets to carry food and other goods. Women were farmers so they had the job to planted and harvested the crops. They stored food and young girls pounded corn into flour. Women used the skin of they animals the men caught to make clothing and other useful goods. The women also had the job of raising the children.
