Above photo was taken at the National Museum of Natural History Manila last August 31, 2018 Friday. Museum is located along the traffic circle within the eastern portion of Rizal Park Ermita Manila. The National Museum of Natural History was established in the year 2017. It was originally the building of Legislative but converted into a museum. The building was retrofitted by Dominic Galicia Architects and interior designer Tina Periquet. Galicia’s design involved the old building design except for the additional glass domed which is supported by a double helix structure which was like a DNA structure. The dome and supporting structure were dubbed as the “Tree of Life” which will cover the courtyard of the six-story building. The supporting members of the helix DNA like structure undergo tension stress since it is designed to be curved which is like a column buckled structure. The supporting members also holds the brace of the roofing of the dome which is a steel grid shell. Members of the grid shell designed structures experience tension stress. The steel which is around the dome connected by a gusset plates was stretched and stretch means there is a change in size of the material which experience tension.
