Sunshine duration

Sunshine duration, precipitation and temperature have an impact on subjective well-being. Kämpfer and Mutz (2013) analyzed the influence of weather on a person’s life satisfaction. Respondents that were interviewed on a sunny day reported a higher life satisfaction compared to others. They concluded that sunny weather can even boost a person’s job satisfaction and that fulfillment with private and professional life is higher on sunny weather. Although Hundertwasser (Regentag) loved rainy days and would say “When it starts raining, I know my day begins” (Schamoni, 1971), the research mentioned above proved that the majority of people are not like that. Because of that, I decided to undergo this research during the same weather conditions for both groups of people, so that it does not positively or negatively influence one or the other.
According to Linch (2011), behavior is the result of an interaction between two groups and the difference among given variables. The first variable is the environment surrounding and effecting the human, and the second are internal conditions of the individual. Advocates of this theory consider that a person’s life satisfaction is a result of recently experienced effects. Unhappy people are more aware of negative elements in their surroundings, while people in a happy mood perceive the same situation differently and look at it as more positive. People in better mood are able to remember more information with a positive shade and they can bring them afterwards to mind faster. According to the “mood as information” hypothesis which was later expanded to the “feelings as information” theory, people rely on their emotions and moods in any judgement process (Kämpfer and Mutz, 2013).
