Social social dysfunction (Nee, 2010). People who suffer

Social media users now interacting through internet and it takes away a person from socializing face-to-face to interacting in a digital enviroment. Our social interaction has been affected by social media as it changed the way we interact face-to-face and the way we receive information (Asur and Huberman, 2010). Moreover, the addiction in using social media platform not only have impact on students’ academic growth but also on their emotional attributes (Jeong, 2005). According to Abdulahi, Samadi, ; Gharleghi (2014) study in Malaysia showed the negative impact of social media usage on users’ mental health.

Malaysians are being reported to have large number in using SNSs such as Facebook, having the higher number of friends on Facebook, spend most of the time on SNSs, and more likely to have addicted on SNSs (The Star, 2010). It showed a negative relationship between social media use and mental health problem on users as based on Nee (2010) stated that SNSs make user isolated from the real world, user will stay focus and take longer time to spend on the monitor either playing online games or chatting with their friends or even keep updating their daily activities. Subsequently it will result in a greater risk of having a mental health problem such as psychiatric disorders including anxiety, depression, insomnia and social dysfunction (Nee, 2010). People who suffer from psychiatric disorders will tend to isolate him or herself from society and only keep themselves in a digital environment. They are hard to interact normally with others as it may include changes in thinking, mood, personality, and behavior (Lim, 2011). Furthermore, extensively media users are being reported less content and are more likely to be reported that they get into trouble, they will often feel sad or unhappy, and bored as they only staying at home and engaging with online activities make them tend not to go out and become salience as users have viewed online activities as the most significant matter to them, it will led to control their thinking thereby lack of social interaction (Rideout, 2010).

According to Lou (2012) study showed that the addictive internet use pushing users to skip meal as they are tendency to stay in front of a technological devices such as computer devices or use smart phone to keep alert about the latest news so that they will not miss out any of the updates. Intensive social media use such as the use of Facebook being predicted increased in loneliness to users (Lou, 2012) as the greater use of media sites can decreased the interaction and communication face-to-face in users with outsiders thereby increased depression and loneliness as well as due to the reason lack of face-to-face friend (Kraut, 1998). Internet users who are emotionally invested in social media sites were at a greater risk for anxiety because of the feeling of isolated when they are not online in networking sites, Rosen (2013) as they have a need to share everything they are doing offline to networking sites. Users with higher anxiety symptoms used SNSs such as Facebook in a more passive way, it means that users will only observing others profile or posts without actually interact or communicate with them (Shaw, 2015).

According to the research conducted by Shaw, Timpano, Tran, and Joormann (2015) the passively use of media sites can increase the level of anxiety as they will make comparison with others after observing others as they are desire to know about what is happening to the trend.
