Priority, honesty and security are the three of my personal values. The value of being honest to others can help when dealing with tough situations and my clients. By being honest will let my clients know that I can be trusted with anything.
The feeling of being secure can really make a difference in a person life. Many of my clients may not experience this but because I value security so much, I will do what I can to make sure my clients can value security as well. Priority is one of my personal values since I live the lifestyle of being a full time working mom and full time college student. By priority being one of my personal values will help me work as a human service professional because it reminds me of how important to take my field of service seriously. Some ways of communicating empathy in the professional interview are through supportive sounds, mirroring and the empathic echo.
Supportive sounds help show that we as human service professional are paying close attention and demonstrating that we are listening. An example of a supportive sound would be replying I see. Mirroring is a form of reflection. Some examples of mirroring are gestures and facial expressions.
The empathic echo refers to a verbal reflection of the clients behaviors, thoughts, affect and meanings in context (Murphy, 2010).
