People prince Hamlet. We are here not

People of Denmark, we gather here today to mourn the loss of our great former prince Hamlet.

We are here not only to mourn, but to commemorate our beloved Prince Hamlet. He did not live a fortunate life and his story deserves to be shared, both good and bad. Let it be a lesson to all, warning against the evils of betrayal and revenge.

Hamlet was an honorable man and a true friend, he died over a decade before his time and by the treachery of none other than the king Claudius. Hamlet was a fine actor and was blessed with a quick wit, this was likely the only reason for his relative success in revenge. He had a huge conscience and genuinely cared for others, this was the cause of his near madness. Hamlet was sent by his own father to avenge the former king Hamlet’s death and to this end the tragedy began to unfold. The decision to believe the ghost and furthermore to act upon it nearly drove him mad, and for a time we truly thought he was.

It was in this near mad state that he drove away the woman he loved and mistakenly killed her father Polonius Ophelia was driven truly mad by her world collapsing as a result of Hamlet’s quest for revenge and therefore drowned herself. It was never his intention to cause such heartbreak, but merely to avenge the unjust murder of his father. Hamlet was very misunderstood and by his lack of an effective plan made himself look like the enemy. He acted on impulse and didn’t intend to harm anyone, not the queen, not Ophelia, not Polonius, not Laertes, not anyone, only the King Claudius. Instead the result of both his and Claudius’s actions caused the collapse of the Kingdom. Were it not for the tragic situation he was in Hamlet would have made a fine ruler and lead our Kingdom in prosperity. He could have been the light in a dark space, a model ruler, for even in the face of such a menacing situation he still managed to remain a true friend.

Future generations would look back on his reign and see it as the Golden Age of Elsinore. But alas fate had other plans for Denmark and young Fortinbras who now sits on the throne. Now the Kingdom shall never know the prosperity that could have been.
