Nursing can be a rewarding profession but can also be a difficult at times

Nursing can be a rewarding profession but can also be a difficult at times. These difficult times create a burden for the registered nurse. An ethical dilemma that registered nurses face is when the families begin to request that the patient not be told about the current medical condition, or the current diagnosis from which they are suffering from. The registered nurse has an obligation and ethical will to the patient to do the right thing and provide the ethical principles such as nonmaleficence and fidelity. In this case specifically the nurse has an obligation to be faithful to the family but also avoid any harm to the patient. The nurse’s own value of being honest and a patients advocate should also be also considered.
