My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.” In his Inaugural Address (January 20, 1961), the thirty fifth president, John F. Kennedy, astonished the nation with his boldness to pledge a better future for not just his country but as well to the world. On this day he took an oath, declared his leadership and ushered the country to do the same.John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born into a politically influential Boston family of Irish-Catholics, in Brookline, Massachusetts on May 29, 1917. He was named after his maternal grandfather, John Francis Fitzgerald who was the Boston mayor known as Honey Fitz. John was born to a politically influential family in Boston. During his childhood, “Jack” suffered regularly of serious illnesses such as the scarlet fever starting before the age of three. Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy and Joseph Patrick Kennedy had nine children altogether, John was the second of the nine children. He had an older brother named Joe; five younger sisters, Rosemary, Kathleen, Eunice, Patricia, and Jean; and two younger brothers, Bobby and Teddy.Coming from a rich, political family Jack and his siblings would vacation in their parents’ summer home in Cape Cod, where they all enjoyed swimming, sailing and touch football. They were encouraged by their father to complete with one another especially between the boys and so they played hard. At the age of sixteen, John Kennedy entered Choate, a boys’ boarding school in Connecticut where he played a variety of sports such as tennis, basketball, football, and golf.
