In enough to cover the costs. Most

In this modern society, post secondary education should be free to insure that everyone can have access to higher education. It provides many benefits to the entire society.

Indeed, post secondary education is in many occasions the minimum to get a good paying job, the general level of education and knowledge would be higher and not everyone can afford or has access to that level of education.First and foremost, post secondary education is basically the minimum. A college or university degree has almost become the minimum standard for entry-level jobs. What once required only a high school diploma now requires a student to obtain a college or university degree and in most cases be in an immense amount of debt. Many student have part time jobs to try and prevent debt, but minimum wage jobs don’t pay enough to cover the costs.

Most students start their adult life in insurmountable debt whilst their parent’s never had to. It is nearly impossible for a family to live off of minimum wage jobs. The cost of life is extremely expensive. And there is not many jobs that don’t require any form of post secondary education that have a good pay.

According to Trade-school.net ”Graduating with high amounts of student loan debt has been shown to reduce a person’s chances of owning a home, getting married, having children, and accumulating wealth.” Furthermore, ”post-secondary graduates not only have more employment prospects but also attain higher wages than those who have completed only high school.” (Cassidy). As has been noted, post secondary education is substantially considered one of the basic necessities to a comfortable lifestyle.

Secondly, if post secondary education was free the general level of education and knowledge would be higher. Workers would have a better chance of being more specialized in their field. This would make the margin of error drop dramatically, eliminating material and time losses. Not to mention, fewer errors can lead to accidents at work. People would also start to be more productive at work.

Which would mean more work done in less time, maximizing staff and resources. All in all, ”A better-educated population could result in smarter decision-making at every level of society, which could lead to faster progress in solving our most difficult, collective challenges.” (Trade-school.net) Lastly, not everyone has access or can afford post secondary education.

Parents in low income families often cannot help their children pay for school. A large amount of top-performing high school students don’t apply to top of the line colleges and universities even though they have the ability to succeed at them. These kids often come from minority and/or low-income households. This leads them, in many cases, not to attend any form of post secondary education. Which helps create a large gap between wealthier families and low income families. If colleges and universities were free ”students would be able to focus more on their studies rather than worrying about how to scrape together enough funds for each upcoming school term. As a result, more of them might graduate on time.

” (Trade-school.net) In a similar fashion to low income families, families with children who have special needs often need to pay an exorbitant amount of money to accommodate their child’s needs. They might end up not having saved or not being able to save money for their child’s education. Given these points, if post secondary education was free low income families, students and families with special needs kids could spend their money on necessities like food and clothes without having to sacrifice a good education. In conclusion, post secondary education should be free because, without it it’s almost impossible to obtain a good paying job, our society would evolve and be able to solve it’s current issues faster and it would mean that everyone has equal access to higher education.

Yes it would be expensive for the government, at first, but the advantages that higher education for all would give to our society is invaluable.
