The influence of realist style appears in all of these plays by showing the reality side of things for what they really are instead of what society tells them it is. In Death of a Salesman, Willy thinks that he wants the new American life but in reality, the American dream is only that, a dream and in order to achieve that, Willy realizes that he has to do twice as much work without complaining and that is the only way for him to get the success he wants but he never does and neither does he talk to his sons about working hard. Willy wants a better life for his sons because he was not able to have that life and he believe and because of that, he is confusing what his life has become and what the meaning of the American dream is which is causing his mental state to rapidly decline. In A Raisin in the Sun, we also have the influence of the Realist style through poverty and how much money could change a family dynamic, the discrimination they faced within the white community, and the change we see within Beneatha and how she changes throughout the play. In A Raisin in the Sun, they have the dreams of upper-class Americans and it causes a lot of problems within the family itself. With the insurance money, it brings about dreams of wanting a bigger house, going into business and opening up a liquor store and a female character not wanting to get married but go to medical school in order to become a doctor instead. All of these are a part of the American dream but the family is living in poverty and they are relying on an insurance check in order to get them to a better state of peace when in fact, it will only bring out more problems especially with them moving into a white neighborhood that doesn’t particularly care for an African Ame…
…second act. Vladimir and Estragon are dressed in clothing but the two main pieces on Estragon would be the boot and his hat. He uses these two pieces and we realize that they are of importance to him. They have company of each other, food, an animal and vegetables so what else is there for them to need. The action in this play is entirely missing and it is supposed to represent time but time is passing them by and every time Godot apparently comes, they miss him. The setting affects the meaning of the play because they have nothing but a road that leads nowhere and a tree but they are waiting on someone so they should be living in comfort, consistently waiting for Godot who may or may not even exist. Eventually, the two characters contemplate death because they begin to grow tire of waiting for Godot but in the end, they decide to wait and see if he comes tomorrow.
