Essay on J.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter

J.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and J.K. Rowling’s Harry PotterFantasy. It’s a word that every person knows. It’s how we live our lives as children. However, when we grow up, we aren’t supposed to have them any more. When writers come along like J.K. Rowling and J.R. Tolkien, who present us with books of magic and fantasy, the books allow everyone to become kids again. Even though the main characters in the books don’t start out as heroes, they follow the hero’s path to defeat a strong evil that threatens their worlds with a close group of people.

In The Lord of the Rings, J.R. Tolkien mixes mystical creatures, odd named beings, and a group of unlikely hero’s who want to rid their world of the evil that threatens it. This idea goes on to be a three part series, where finding and destroying the ring are vital to their worlds’ existence. Through the quest for the ring, the band of unlikely hero’s learning how to get along and thrive through whatever problem they become faced with.Years after the death of J.R. Tolkien comes along another writer who also writes of magic and fantasy, by the name of J.K. Rowling. Her books, named solely after their unlikely hero of a main character, Harry Potter, show the world around Harry through his eyes. The books, that began as one and grew at an increasingly fast rate due to popularity, show Harry’s struggles as he, his school mates, and his closest friends grow up in two different worlds. Harry and his best friends, Ron and Hermione, learn wizardry and battle the dark wizard Lord Voldermort who wants to take over the wizarading world and make it evil.

The Lord of the Rings has eight main characters who are all different kinds of mystical creatures. They ban together to fight Sa…

…when he turns eleven and goes to Hogwarts.

Through out Harry Potter, Lord Voldermort changes shapes. This is brought on by the fact that when Harry was a baby, Voldermort killed his parents. After killing Harry’s mom, Voldermort went to kill Harry and almost killed himself leaving Harry with just a scar. This makes it so that Voldermort must try his hardest for over fourteen years to regain a body. He goes from living off people and unicorn blood, to being just a mist head, to finally getting a body but not for long.

These books show readers that working together in a group and believing can be the strongest thing a person or people can do. They use magic and evil as a way to show that the world can be what you want it to and there is always a way to get through things. You don’t always have to follow the path of a hero to make a difference in a person’s life.
