SPIN THE BOTTLE
FOR CHILDREN
TIME: 30 MINUTES
MATERIALS: BOTTLE

STEP 1: Students and the teacher sit in a circle with a bottle in the middle.
STEP 2: Teacher spins the bottle.
STEP 3: When it stops spinning the student it is pointing to has to answer a question.
STEP 4: If the answer is correct then that student can spin the bottle. (for example: How was your weekend? Do you like tea? Did you sleep well last night?).

STEP 1: The teacher hands out strips of paper with directions like “How many students are wearing glasses?” or “How many desks are there in the classroom?”:
STEP 2: Students walk around the classroom finding the answer to their question.
STEP 3: As soon as they have their answer, they run to the board, write the question and answer and their name.
STEP 4: If there are a lot of students and access to the board confined, students who have finished can sit down in their seats when they are finished and then read out their questions and answers in the order they finished at the end of the activity.

STEP 1: Students are given three words.
STEP 2: They have to determine what word collocates with all three words.
For example, if the words are “big” “full” and “crescent” the word that collocates with all three is “moon.”

SIMON SAYS
FOR A1 LEVEL
TIME: 1 HOUR
MATERIALS: N/A

STEP 1: The teacher stands in front of the class (the teacher is Simon for the duration of this game).
STEP 2 : The teacher does an action and says Simon Says action. The students must copy what the teacher does do.
STEP 3: This process continues choosing different actions.
STEP 4: Then, the teacher does an action but this time says only the action and omit ‘Simon Says’. Whoever does the action this time is out and must sit down.
STEP 5: The winner is the last student standing.
STEP 6: To make it harder, the teacher speeds up the actions.

MATERIALS: N/A

STEP 1: Students are given a certain number of coins or squares of paper (about 10).
STEP 2: Everyone moves around the room starting conversations and asking each other questions. The only rule is that the students cannot say the words YES or NO.
STEP 3: If a student accidentally say one of these words, they have to give a coin or square to the person who they said it to.
STEP 4: The students try to trick each other by asking questions that they would almost always answer with a yes or no.

STEP 1: Students look at some statements about names and decide with their partners whether they’re true or false for Britain.

STEP 4: Students tell partners about their own country.

STEP 1: The teacher has the students find objects and toys that are appropriate for a coffee shop.

STEP 1: One student will be the employer.
STEP 2: One student will be the employee candidate.
STEP 3: The employer student will interview the employee candidate student, so they will have practiced it years before getting an actual job.

STEP 1: Students memorize the lyrics of a song by their favorite singer.
STEP 2 (optional): They bring a costume of the singer.
STEP 3: They perform (either lip-sync or if they have talent, sing) the song.
STEP 4: They act like the other students are their fans and sign their autographs.

MATERIALS: PRINTED CARDS

STEP 1: Teacher prints up cards containing nouns based on the vocabulary students have been working on in class. (e.g. if they have been working on occupations, the cards could contain words such as “teacher” “doctor” etc.
STEP 2: In teams, students mime the activities for each other as their classmates try to guess the occupation. The first person to guess then takes their turn by picking a card.
STEP 3: Students must stay in character during the activity.

COUNT THE ONE, TWO, THREES
FOR TEENS
TIME: 20 MINUTES
MATERIALS: N/A

STEP 1: Teacher asks the students to stand facing the partner and keep counting one, two, three over and over again.
STEP 2: Once the pair can do so comfortably, teacher asks them to clap their hands instead of saying ‘one.’ They will still have to say two and three out loud. So the pattern will be a clap, followed by saying two, three out loud.
STEP 3: Once the pair can do this step, they have to exchange the word ‘three’ for the act of bending their knees. So, the pattern will be a clap, say the word ‘two’ out loud and then bend the knees. It has to continue like this over and over again.

TV CHANNELS
FOR A1 LEVEL
TIME: 15 MINUTES
MATERIALS: CLEAR SPACE

STEP 1: A volunteer sits in the centre of the circle.
STEP 2: The rest of the students are the TV channels. The student in the centre of the circle is watching the television. He/she is channel surfing.
STEP 3: When they point to someone in the circle, they have turned on the channel. The person must speak; they can be a news channel, weather, sports, documentary comedy, drama, or a soap opera.
STEP 4: The channel surfer stays on the channel for about 30 seconds and then moves on. They can always come back to the same channel. Everyone should have a chance at being a TV station.

STEP 1: Teacher asks two or more students to do a role-play.
STEP 2: It could be a location, or they could be told to pretend to act out a scene from a film that all the students know.
STEP 3: The students don’t speak, although they can move their mouths as if they are speaking.
STEP 4: Two or more students sit in front of the action, and do the speaking.
