Early intervention is when you provide specialist support at an early stage, this could be when an individual is experiencing any signs of mental illness. Early intervention is critical for reducing the progression of a mental illness, but also for improving an individual’s mental health.
If you were to have any concerns about an individual’s mental health and wellbeing visiting your GP is a good start, GPs can observe and complete an assessment, if required they are able to arrange referrals to a for assessment of the need for intervention and or treatment. Some benefits of early intervention for an individual experiencing a mental health illness could include: reduced need for hospital admittance reduced family disruption and distress improved recovery and better attitudes to treatment reduced risk of suicide
