Each year, 12 million girls are married before the age of 18. That is 23 girls every minute. We have seen that child marriage targets more girls than boys. The number of victims and the potency of sufferings are way higher for girls. Child marriage means the end to the children’s childhood and this marriage grooming at early age can be a disaster to them as their personal development are at risk. It is a right human violation that we must end so that all children can achieve a better future.
Marriage grooming can be a disaster because education will gets affected. When a girl gets married, she is often expected to drop out of school so that she can focused on family planning . It is proven in USA, about 50% of the women who are pregnant in their teens only complete their high school education whereas 90% women who complete it never got pregnant in their teens. Next, work opportunities are limited for the youngsters. Since their education levels are low, they will not get a highly paid jobs and they will end up working on low-grade jobs which are often not well paid. Indeed, financial issues will arise within the marriage. However, marriage grooming at early age can also not be a disaster at all as it teaches the children to be responsible individuals as a parent and a soulmate. For instance, it will give more time for the girls to learn the household works and how to be a better wife and mother.
As a conclusion, child marriage seems like a better idea for a poor or lower classes of families to make their child’s future safe but actually it is not. Child marriage destroys the life of the children. This children especially girls should be given a quality education so education can be a powerful tools to enable girls to avoid child marriage and fulfil their potential. Being in school also supports that girls are still children and not vulnerable to marriage.
