Death on the Nile by Hercule Poirot”Death on the Nile”, a Hercule Poirot murder mystery, takes place inEngland for the first part of the story and along the Nile Riveraboard the S.S. KARNAK for the rest of the book. Agatha Christie tellsthe story in the third person narrative.

The protagonist and main character is Hercule Poirot, theworld-renowned, brilliant Belgian detective who has solved numerousdifficult and complex cases. Before his escape to England during WWI,Poirot, a retired Belgian police officer, was a celebrated privatedetective on the continent. He is not more than five feet four inchesbut carries himself with pride and integrity. He has a moustache thatis exceptionally stiff and military-like. He wears only the finestattire and his neatness is astonishing.

Hercule Poirot is a kinetic character because he does change by theend of the story in a small way. I can say that because all detectivesat the beginning of a crime go in thinking one idea. Next, theyexplore many possibilities for who could have committed the crime andwhat their motive was. By the end of the story they reach a conclusionthat is totally different than what they first expected. That isexactly what Hercule Poirot did, and that is how he changed.

“Death on the Nile” is a spectacular novel with an ending full ofsuspense. I did not want to put this book down, it kept me hooked. Itwas really exhilarating and I would recommend it to anyone wanting toread a book that involves murder, mystery, and a great deal ofsuspense. With every turn of the page something new happened thataffected the outcome of the story. It was a fairly entertaining noveltold by a great author. “Death on the Nile” was a particularlywell-written book with a tremendously well thought out plot.
