The group is made up of three artists, Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood, and Charles Kelley. Hillary Dawn Scott-Tyrrell was born on April 1, 1986 in Nashville, Tennessee (Monger, Timothy). She is the co-lead singer of Lady Antebellum. Her mother Linda Davis is a country music artist and Lang Scott is also a musician and entrepreneur (Hillary Scott Biography). Hillary Scott was homeschooled on the road for her first year in kindergarten. She later attended elementary school and high school at Donelson Christian Academy and graduated in 2004.

While her parents were on the road performing, she lived with her grandparents. After joining her mom on stage for a Christmas show at the age of 14, Hillary Scott wanted to follow her parents’ footsteps and pursue a music career. After she graduated from high school, she went to Middle Tennessee State University to help her musical career grow. During her time at college, Hillary Scott worked with singer/songwriter Victoria Shaw and earned some recognition but couldn’t get signed to any major contract labels (Monger, Timothy). She then auditioned for American Idol twice but failed to make it in the judges’ round.

In May 2006, Hillary Scott met future bandmates Charles Kelley and later, Dave Haywood. She saw Kelley at a Nashville bar and recognized him from MySpace, a social media page, where she had been listening to some of his music. She introduced herself to Kelley and complimented him on his music. He decided that they should get together with Dave Haywood and write songs. Their first song that was written was “All We’d Ever Need”. The song was originally written for her to perform alone but she convinced Charles Kelley it should be a duet.

The group first performed together in August 2006 and signed a record deal with Capitol Nashville in 2007. Hillary Scott first met her now husband, Chris Tyrell in college and reconnected when both groups were opening acts on Tim McGraw’s Southern Voice tour in early 2010 (Hillary Scott Biography). Chris Tyrell played as a drummer for the band Love and Theft in Nashville, Tennessee. They began dating in July 2010. On January 7, 2012, Hillary got married to Chris Tyrrell. Charles Burgess Kelley was born on September 11, 1981 in Augusta, Georgia (Monger, James Christopher). He is the youngest out of three brothers. His parents are Gayle and Dr. John W. Kelley. Charles Kelley began his musical career at the age of 11 (Monger, James Christopher).

His brothers, Charles, Josh and John formed a band called Inside Blue when they were teenagers (Charles Kelley). They released a five-song CD that gained major attention of a label company. While Charles Kelley was in middle school, he met Dave Haywood and they wrote their first song at the age of 14 (Monger, James Christopher). Both Charles and Dave graduated from Lakeside High School in Evans, Georgia. Charles then went on to attend University of Georgia and graduated in 2004 with a degree in finance (Charles Kelley). In November of 2009, Lady Antebellum won the CMA’s Vocal Group of the Year category (Dooley, Sean).

They also won the CMA award for Single of the Year for “I Run to You” (Dooley, Sean). The album was certified platinum by the RIAA three months later, in October 2009 (Dooley, Sean).
