Culinary arts are a great work force to enter into because its offers multiple entry jobs that don’t require a lot of experience and it also gives you the ability to work your way up in the culinary industry and it pays a good amount of money. The culinary business is full of potential jobs and careers for experienced and non-experienced workers. Entry level jobs are beginner jobs. You can either be experienced or non-experienced it really doesn’t matter because there are plenty of professionals who can offer on the job training. Entry level jobs also pay pretty good money ranging from $11.25+ an hour.
In order to enter the culinary business, you must graduate from either an arts school with a certificate or a 2 year associates degree from a college with a culinary program. There are classes you can also take while in high school to prepare you for the fundamentals of cooking and programs that train you in a way that gives you a head start in the ACTUAL culinary business it offers real restaurant style kitchens, you work with a real chef, and you also cater to the programs after school meetings.
You can earn scholarships to high grade culinary programs/schools an example would be that you can earn a financial scholarship to JOHNSON-WALES located in Charlotte NC. these programs also offer job opportunity’s right after class completion. The program also requires you to do community service which can be completed after school on your own time or you can attend the programs local events held and located in Troutman NC. These are great events to offer real on the job training skills which can prepare you for anything!!!
Now let’s talk about what to expect upon entering the real world culinary business. There are many paths to choose in the culinary business. You can start your own restaurant, you can be a restaurant manager, Executive chef, Line cook, Prep cook and so many more positions you can obtain in the industry. All of these are good positions but they all take hard work. The culinary industry is not an easy business because everyone has to eat and everyone like good food. Chefs face a lot of pressure due to the fact that they are over all kitchen staff and when the kitchen staff does poorly it reflects on the chef.
Managers and owners also have a lot to worry about as they have to deal with money and business financing and other things needed for the business to thrive and they also must have great customer service skills even when dealing with the rudest customers. But on the flip side you get holidays off and the rate of pay is pretty good and only gets better as you work your way up. In order to work your way up in the business you have to know what you are doing. You can’t be a manager and not know the basics because you can be the one to ruin a business.
The culinary business is also very fast-paced. No not fast food fast but no one should have to wait 1hr for their meal. Customers love restaurants that serve great food and bring it to you in a reasonable amount of time. Also, not every restaurant serves the same food also so if your specialty is soul food then a sushi joint wouldn’t be the place for you. You want to find a restaurant that best fits your style of cooking.
There are plenty of famous chefs and restaurants around the world that serve amazing food, but one thing that can draw a big crowd is scenery. Scenery in a restaurant is very essential because it’s the atmosphere of which the food is ate in. Your restaurant’s theme should match the food. Like a lot of sushi or seafood places have a Japanese theme or related theme. This only happens because it makes you feel as if the restaurant is authentic and people love to feel like they’re getting something authentic for a nice price.
There are plenty of opportunities to make money in culinary you just have to be determined and work hard for it. The culinary business takes a lot of hard work and dedication to enter into but the end result is worth it.
