I am going to discuss the rebellious acts shown in these novels and how they turned out for the rebels (Winston Smith from 1984 and Marjane Satrapi from Persepolis).

In the novel Persepolis, many struggles are presented, such as the Islamic revolution, the war between Irag and Iran and her struggle with growing up. One of the strongest and more obvious themes of the novel is rebellion. Rebellion is constantly shown in every shape or form in the novel. Satrapi started off very young rebelling against the Shah because her parents influenced her on what to believe in and how to stand up for what she wanted.
This made het into mature rebellious person. In the very beginning of the novel, Satrapi explains the start of the Islamic revolution in 1980. A lot had happened then, the woman became obligated to wear the veil and the girls got separated from the boys. When she finally understood the reason for the revolution she made her decision, “Tomorrow we are going to demonstrate”(Satrapi 38). She demonstrates against the Shah which turned out to work, the Shah had left and the “country had the biggest celebration of its entire history” (42).
Later in the novel rebellion against the veil is shown more often, by wearing it wrong.
